Forest wasp
The forest wasp (Dolichovespula arenaria) builds its aerial papier-mâché nests suspended in trees, shrubs or under eaves. Very common in forests and rural areas of Quebec, it is particularly aggressive when defending its nest.

How to identify it
Measuring 12 to 18 mm, it resembles the yellow wasp but is more elongated. Its abdomen features yellow and black stripes. Its oval aerial nests are characteristic.
