Latin name> Periplaneta americana
The cockroach of Quebec, or more generally the cockroach, cockroach or cockroach, is part of a family of harmful insects with more than 4,000 species. With no less than 70 present in Canada, fifteen of which can be described as cockroaches, they are officially the most active pests in the territory. While a large majority of species live in the woods, some prefer civilization by depositing their suitcases in our homes, workplaces and warehouses keeping food. Although often wrongly associated with poor hygiene, a Quebec cockroach colony is particularly difficult to dislodge…
What are the signs of presence of cockroaches?
Preferring to show the tips of its antennae at night when we sleep, the Quebec cockroach is particularly difficult to detect. If you notice activity during the day, even if it is only one insect, this is irrefutable proof that a large colony is already present. Preferring dark and warm places, it is advisable first to check under the furniture but also behind all your electrical appliances emitting heat, such as the fridge or your gas stove. Finally, it is not uncommon to find traces of their excrement on paper, particularly in books that provide the dark and warm habitat that they love.
How do you prevent cockroaches from infesting your home?
Using your home as a food source, the species will never settle (or stay…) in a place where no food is present. Therefore, it is imperative that you control access to your food: do not leave anything lying on the table, sweep the broom frequently, wash your dishes immediately and keep your foodstuffs in airtight containers. You can also put screens on the exterior ducts, these being their favorite means of access to your home. If that’s still not enough, hiring an extermination company will be a necessity.
